About the Role
Good Reason Houston aims to make Houston the top public education city in the nation by transforming the educational experience for over 700,000 students. The Content Manager will play a pivotal role in achieving this by shaping and executing a content strategy that elevates the organization’s voice, amplifies key messages, and drives engagement across digital platforms.
As the steward of our brand storytelling, the Content Manager will develop compelling narratives that highlight the urgency and opportunity in Houston’s public education landscape. They will craft content that informs, inspires, and mobilizes key audiences—including families, educators, policymakers, and community leaders—to take action in support of educational excellence.
This role requires a creative and strategic thinker who can translate complex education issues into accessible, engaging content. The Content Manager will oversee written materials, digital content, and audience engagement strategies while managing a team member responsible for social media execution. By analyzing content performance and audience behavior, they will continuously refine messaging approaches to maximize impact.
Ultimately, the Content Manager will enhance Good Reason Houston’s ability to influence public discourse, strengthen its position as a thought leader in education, and ensure that more people across Houston are engaged in the work of improving public schools. This role will report to the Managing Director, Communications.
Primary Responsibilities:
Content Development & Strategy (40%)
- Develop and implement a content strategy optimized for search engines (SEO) and audience engagement.
- Create and manage written content that can be utilized in various platforms such as blogs, email newsletters, 1-pagers, and op-eds.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Visual Content and design contractors to create multimedia content, including videos, infographics, and social media assets.
- Manage the organization’s content calendar.
Management & Leadership (30%)
- Oversee social media execution carried out by Associate, Digital Audience, who will create content for and engage audiences on social media.
- Manage content distribution and engagement across platforms.
- Support direct report performance goals, providing regular feedback and coaching to enhance content quality and impact.
Performance Analytics & Optimization (20%)
- Track and report content performance across platforms using tools such as Google Analytics, Meltwater, or Zapier to adjust strategy accordingly.
- Identify opportunities to lead conversations on key education topics and trends, ensuring Good Reason Houston is positioned as a thought leader.
- Track engagement metrics, such as engagement rates, website traffic, and conversion metrics, to measure the effectiveness of content efforts and refine approach.
Website (10%)
- Post approved content to websites and create new pages, as necessary.
- Maintain and optimize the website for user experience, accessibility, and SEO best practices.
Qualifications and Key Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in brand management, content creation, and digital marketing.
- Strong understanding of current marketing trends and multimedia platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to think strategically and execute tactically in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in marketing analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Zapier, Meltwater, etc.)
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions.
- Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

Working at Good Reason Houston
Good Reason Houston offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The starting salary range for this position is $80,000 annually. New hires are offered a salary depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. Benefits offered include 401(k) (automatic 3% employer contribution), life, medical, dental and vision insurance packages. Each employee accrues 35 paid time off days per calendar year in addition to the 19 paid holidays per year. Good Reason Houston is an office-based organization, but allows for virtual work on Mondays and Fridays.
